BOSKA: marrying tradition with a modern B2B commerce experience

When BOSKA set out in 1896, it was a blacksmith in the Dutch town of Bodegraven. Today, the family-owned brand operates in over 110 countries, known for its high-quality food tools. Their products combine Dutch design with a passion for sharing food, and are built to last a lifetime. That dedication to craftsmanship is still part of BOSKA’s business. But, as the brand grew, so did the complexity of their digital landscape. The challenge? Integrating its B2B and D2C operations into a single, unified digital experience, without compromising the brands personal touch.

Bringing two worlds under one roof

When Code and BOSKA started working together, BOSKA’s D2C store ran on Magento, while B2B orders were still coming in via phone, fax, or email. It worked, but it was clunky. Sales reps were caught up in admin, order processes were slow, and customers weren’t getting the experience they expected from a brand with such a strong reputation.

BOSKA needed a digital backbone that could bring both D2C and B2B operations together, something scalable, efficient, and easy for customers and staff to use.

From custom build to native Shopify B2B

Code’s partnership with BOSKA started before Shopify had native B2B functionality. In 2018, we built a fully bespoke B2B solution on Shopify, including features like:

  • Customer-specific pricing
  • Minimum order quantities
  • Integration with Microsoft Dynamics Business Central

This set the foundation for their growth, and caught Shopify’s attention, contributing to Code becoming the first official Shopify Plus Partner in the Netherlands and central Europe.

Fast forward, Shopify innovated its platform at a pace few platforms can match. With over 4,500 engineers continuously building, testing, and launching new features, their B2B offering rapidly matured. If you explored Shopify B2B a few years ago and found it lacking, it’s worth taking another look. Chances are the features you needed are now built in.

That’s exactly what we did with BOSKA. Within 3 months, we migrated BOSKA from our custom build to Shopify’s native B2B features. That shift meant less reliance on custom development, easier platform management, and a smoother path for scaling internationally.

Throughout, we kept brand consistency and UX at the centre. The platform now offers a seamless experience across B2B and D2C, with functionality tailored to how BOSKA’s customers actually buy. That includes advanced features like tiered pricing, account manager ordering tools, and rich product detail pages designed to support high-volume, professional buyers.

A platform built for performance and longevity

Fast forward to today and it’s clear that this was more than a technical upgrade. It marked a turning point in how BOSKA operates across every channel:

  • One ecosystem for both B2B and D2C, breaking down internal silos and duplicated effort.
  • Streamlined operations, with complex pricing and order flows now automated.
  • Stronger customer relationships, supported by tools that make large-scale ordering easy and intuitive.
  • Future-ready infrastructure, with room to grow into new markets without needing a full rebuild.

With Shopify Markets, BOSKA is expanding internationally and using packaging innovation to drive loyalty back to their owned channels. Logistics are handled by specialist partners, allowing them flexibility without compromising efficiency. And with a customer data platform in the works, they’re building the infrastructure needed for growth through personalised commerce.

This project wasn’t just about technology. It was about future-proofing BOSKA’s business without losing the craftsmanship, creativity and customer focus that define the brand.
